Vintage Inspired Baseball Knits: It’s hard to imagine your favorite baseball players today sporting hand knit sweaters while sitting in the dugout, but when baseball first started sweaters were part of the uniform. These team sweaters are a casualty in a world of sweat wicking technology, but now you can relive the baseball sweater glory days with Vintage Inspired Baseball Knits.  Designer Allyson Dykhuizen unites her love of baseball and knitting in this six pattern tribute to the baseball days of old. Whether your favorite team is the St Louis Browns or the Baltimore Orioles, sweaters like Trolley Dodger, The Georgia Peach, Harnett Tank, and Knickerbocker Tee will have you ready for first pitch in old school style. Dress your favorite baby in pinstripes with Baby Babe Ruth and keep yourself warm in your team’s colors with Stadium Blanket.

This completely unique collection includes six awesome patterns, and here are some of my most favorites:

A classic go-to gift pattern that can be customized in an endless combination of team colors.  I already have at least three versions of this blanket being cast on in my mind for sports-lovers whom I love.

I’m having so much fun picturing tough tobacco-spitting baseball players of yore wearing a sweater like this.. alongside images of me wearing this while chatting about cute boys with my girlfriends at a bar.  This can be chalked up to the sheer versatility of these designs.

And finally, my favorite of them all… the boat neck, the short row hem shaping.. this is right up my alley in a multitude of ways!  I’m excited to start seeing finished projects for this pattern popping up all over Ravelry.

What I love most about this e-book is the realization of two completely separate passions into one creation.  Allyson is completely in love with both knitting and baseball culture, and to discover a way to marry the two is totally genius… and something I think about constantly.  Combining what you love most in life into one ultimate thing is such a simple idea.. and yet, so difficult to pull off.  Suffice it to say, Allyson has really knocked it out of the park on this one.*

I may not be a sports fanatic (although I truly do feel like that day will come, given certain key aspects of my personality), but I love getting a fun history lesson through each pattern.  Did you know that The New York Yankees were the first team to put pinstripes on their uniforms  so that Babe Ruth could look slimmer?  How generous!

You can get your copy of Vintage-Inspired Baseball Knits in paper or e-book form on the Knit Picks website… or pick and choose your favorites to buy separately.
